Decluttering Does Not Mean You Have to Stop Living in Your Home
Preparing to sell is not the same as moving out
Can we talk about this for a minute? There is a big difference between preparing your home for sale and practically moving out before it is even sold.
Yes, decluttering is important. Absolutely. But somewhere along the way, I think the message has gotten a little confused. At Venture North Real Estate Co, I see it with sellers near Crivitz and across the Northwoods.
Buyers need to picture themselves living there
Your dining room table? It can stay. Your living room furniture? Yep, that too. Your favorite chair where you enjoy your morning coffee? You are allowed to keep sitting in it.
Buyers need to be able to picture themselves living in a home, not just walking through empty rooms. Furniture helps define spaces. It shows buyers how a room functions, how a dining table fits, and how comfortable a living area can be.
What I do recommend when you prepare to sell
- Declutter countertops, closets and storage areas.
- Pack away things you will not need before moving. You are going to pack them eventually anyway.
- Take care of those little repairs you have been putting off.
- Clean up the garage, basement and outdoor areas.
- Remove excess furniture if rooms feel crowded.
- Keep your home clean, inviting and comfortable.
But please, do not think you need to rent a storage unit for every piece of furniture you own just because you are selling your house.
Maybe you do not even want to move that table
Maybe you do not even want to move that dining room table. Maybe the next buyer would love to purchase it. Those conversations and options can happen along the way.
A home should still feel like a home. Every property is different, and sometimes removing furniture makes sense. Other times, keeping the right pieces makes all the difference. That is why preparing a home for sale should never be a one-size-fits-all approach. My page on selling your home shows how I help sellers get ready.
You still have to live there until it sells
Selling your home is already a big life transition. Let us not make it more stressful than it needs to be.
If you are thinking about selling in Crivitz and Surrounding Areas, talk to me before you empty a single room. Get in touch and we will walk through your home together.
